President, John McLaughlin
I have been coming to Sargent for over 50 years and am now a full time resident. It is my desire to serve the community and to preserve and protect the integrity of East Matagorda Bay and its estuarine to the best of my ability. I am a U.S. Navy veteran (Vietnam era), a former business owner, and former GM of an electrical distributor. I earned a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology from UH and am a past president of the Technology Alumni Association at UH. I have been involved with the resurrection of the East Matagorda Bay Foundation from the beginning.


Vice-President, Larry Cabness

A weekender since 1954, who grew up in Caney Creek Estates coming down on weekends and for the summer.  Larry is a Captain licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard to operate a non inspected vessel.  He is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and currently employed as sales manager for Amerifab International, Inc., manufacturer of electrical power buildings. Larry and his wife Debbie plan on retiring in Sargent.  He truly cares about East Matagorda Bay and means to protect it and hand it on to our children in pristine condition.

Treasurer, Ed Stavinoha

Ed is currently on the board of Caney Creek Estates. He is a full-time resident of Sargent and a past member of the East Matagorda Bay Foundation. He is married to Joan, retired from OFM Machine and has owned property in Sargent since 1971. He, along with his two sons, Donald and Scott love fishing the Sargent and Matagorda Area.

Secretary, Suzanne Porretto

Suzanne is a 4th generation property owner on Caney Creek and has 3 other family members who have made Sargent their full time residence. She is a stay at home Mom with 2 children in VVISD and has helped her husband with the paperwork involved in owning and operating their own construction business for almost 15 years.

Prior to relocating in Sargent, Suzanne held several different secretarial, assistant and accounting positions over the years in Houston.

She hopes to stay in Sargent and is concerned that all the waterways and estuaries in our area remain as clean and pristine as they are at the present. It is her intention to assist in this endeavor however she can.

Director-At-Large, Edward Kinney

I have been a resident of Sargent since 1982, I am a past President of the Chamber of Commerce from the 80,s. I was in the construction business in the late 80,s, I then got in the Insurance Adjusting business, I have worked Hurricane Hugo, Andrew, Opal, Katrina, Rita, Ike and the Earth Quake in Los Angles. I had Frontier Adjusters of Bay City until 2005.
