Lin, Kraus, & Barcak 2002

The East Matagorda Bay environment has been relatively stable since 1935/36, approximately 75 years. The interaction between the Colorado River, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Mitchell’s Cut and the East Bay complex is relatively weak, and stable. The resultant wildlife / fish count conducted by Texas Parks and Wildlife has shown consistent growth with record results.

The West Matagorda Bay environment was impacted in 1992 by the re-routing of the Colorado River and the closing of Parker’s Cut. How much impact this change had on the environment that had been established in 1935/36 is unknown.
